2010 FO 3 - Ishbel

Pattern:  Ishbel by Ysolda Teague (smallest size)
Yarn:  Lush yarn - color tomato - probably about 75gms
Started:  20th January, finished 22nd January

This is the first lace project I have ever really knitted.  I have to say that I followed the written directions for this pattern which is wonderfully written.  However, I will never knit it again when the following occurs:

- Children trying to talk to you
- Knitting late at night when you should be in bed asleep
- Doing a row and then coming back to it later

I originally started this pattern in another lush yarn which was a beautiful brown color and I got to the lace part and tried to knit it 4 times.  I got through Section A and B twice, dropped a stitch because one of the kids were talking to me and couldnt fix it.  After the third time of this happening I ripped it all out and started again with the tomato color.  No talking and more concentration helped too.  I do not think I will be knitting this again for a little while but I would like to try and knit one for Paul's grandmother who is 90 in April.  I think she would love it but I might try the shawl size next time!

Hey Sue I love your template so much I went over and bought a new one myself =)

yes sue I hear you on the lace knitting...it requires total concentration! someone always wants to talk to you/ask where something is and once you lose concentration the work goes out the window!!

yours is lovely! I want to make an ishbel but it could take me a long time as I need total concentration

well done!

Beautiful Sue, I have a baby rug still unfinished (25 rows to the pattern) due to the only time I can get with no one talking to me / at me is when I am crossed eyed with tiredness!

Grandma will feel VERY special....now what are you making for you? : )

It looks lovely, I like the color a lot. I'm on to section D tonight but too tired to finish it, hopefully I can CO tomorrow :-)

Ah, yes - those rules apply to all lace (and other complex patterns)!

Your Ishbel looks good to me.

your ishbel is lovely! i've heard others say it isn't an easy lace pattern, not as intuitive as some are.

That's lovely, Sue. I'll put it on my list but like you, I need total concentration for lace and it's rubbish to frog. I'm plodding on with the socks and am attracted by the thought of knitting string shopping bags for xmas gifts too. Good at planning !!!
Cheers Gillian

That's really beautiful! I love it in the red. And I agree about Ishbel being one of those knits that you have to completely concentrate on. My husband was a little ignored when I was making mine! :)

Your Ishbel is one of the most beautiful knitted pieces I have ever seen.I totally relate to EVERY SINGLE one of your 'reasons not to knit', the children talking to you one especially. I agree with Jodie...you truely are the knitting queen!

I'm so pleased you like the owls because the pale pink one is for Isabelle. Now I just have to do the jug cover and send them off to you. Hope you are having a happy Australia Day!

Oh you must keep this one as a "heritage" piece to be handed down through your family....do a little journal with it and write in all the trials and tribulations you went through to create it. It is just lovely Sue...well done!
Kind Regards
Judith

What a gorgeous shawl. the colour is fantastic. I am so glad to hear that a really experienced knitter like you can still get in a tangle with a lace pattern. Every time I have tried it has been a disaster - perhaps I need to follow your very sensible rules.

Bee-yoo-tiful. Almost makes me want to knit some MORE lace in fuzzy yarn! :)
