2008 - FO No 23

Pattern: Modular Tomten Jacket by EZ, The Opinionated Knitter

Started: 29th May Finished: 2nd June 2008

Yarn: Palette Collection, acrylic yarn, 2.5 balls

Size: About a 1 yr size using 4mm needles

I cast on for this pattern as soon as I received the book. It was so quick and easy to knit the garter stitch which is always faster I think. I stitched the zipper in last night. The yarn is some that I found at Kmart for 99c a ball last week and I loved the colors so all up it cost about $4.50 to knit including the zipper. The acrylic yarn isnt itchy, scratchy or squeaky like some acrylic yarns and it can go in the machine to be washed which is always handy for new mums. I made this for my sister's friend who is due to have her son in a couple of months, but the baby shower is at the end of the month so I wanted to get it finished. I love the colors in this yarn which looks much nicer in real life than in this photo. I do hope she likes it.

Now I am off to go fold my papers for delivery, hang out some washing and hopefully get in some knitting time. I also discovered a recipe for Golden Syrup Dumplings on the back of the Coles recipe leaflet this morning so perhaps tonight I might try and make some. They are Paul's and Lachlan's favourite.

This yarn is an excellent choice for the pattern. I've got his book too, so may have to think about doing this.

Great deal on that yarn! I've never sewn in a zipper before, I tend to just substitute buttons. This makes me wonder if I should take the leap :P

How do you like the EZ book? I'm thinking about getting it

Acrylic is perfect for mums! Who has time to hand wash clothes? Certainly not me!

Gorgeous and thrifty! Great work.

ooo, knitting with zipper - tried once - turned out as total disaster - but yours is great!

Hi Sue,
I really appreciate your kind thoughts regarding Nala. I LOVE your idea of the stone. We are also going to pick a beautiful, loyal perennial to plant by her too.
The yarn you used for the Tomten jacket reminds me of the yarn I'm using for my daughter's bolero. It's almost finished.
happy knitting!

Yum, I haven't had Golden Dumplings for ages. Kim and I were talking about those just the other week. Must be because it's winter.

You are so quick knitting the little Totem jacket. Love the colours.

Wow! I love how your tomten turned out! I've not yet seen one knit with variegated yarn. It's precious! Beautiful work!

Nice jacket - both of mine are knitted in variegated yarns; one commercial, the other hand dyed. They're not finished 'cos they ain't got zippers :(

Any hints for sewing in zippers? I'm terrified at the thought!
