Crocheting Along!

I have been looking through the book deciding which stitches to try out. The first one was the slip stitch. The brown and cream yarn came in a kit for a bag so I thought I would try it out first. It isnt too hard to remember although it does put more strain on my eyes because I have to look where I am putting the hook through whereas with knitting I just know where the needle is going and I dont have to look. It is turning out okay although where I change the color of the yarn could be improved (must look up that in the book) but is getting better.
The second picture is my effort of trying to do double crochet. It seems to curl up a bit but maybe it is my tension when crocheting. I do need a lot more practice with this. I am just waiting until I can teach myself some of those gorgeous granny squares I see on all those clever ladies' blogs who make them look so marvellous and then perhaps all those colored cottons can become a blanket! Maybe next year's project. I do agree with Katt though, it would be nice to have someone next to you to show you the little things but the book isnt too bad you know. It actually shows it all step by step, it just gets a bit confusing when trying to do the circle above where you have to remember double crochet and then chains, well you know what Im talking about, trying to remember each one separately! Okay Im starting to confuse myself now .... must stop talking and just do it. Oh and I must say that we had a lovely cool weekend where it rained nearly the whole time. The garden is looking much better and the new plants are smiling again. I even beheaded my dead roses this morning which looked like they were made of paper since being burnt last week! Happy crafting!

How neat that you are teaching yourself to crochet! It sounds like you are having so much fun.

Your crochet effort looks great, I think with the round one it only needs to be blocked. I don't think it is your tension. I remember from my days with dollies that it looked awful until it was blocked.
Happy Crafting!

Great job! Looks like you're making fabulous progress. I was doing a little crochet last night, and you're right -- I'd forgotten that you need to pay closer attention to where that little hook goes!

Great work Sue! I reckon its time for a visit to Attick24 blog. She has really easy tutorials, with great photos that make them super simple for beginners. Happy crocheting.

I have also recently started crocheting with a lady in my knitting group. It has been fun & I am now crocheting a scarf. Good luck with your crochet.
