Doctor's Diagnosis

I just thought I would pop in and update here on the blog for you all to let you know how my tests went at the doctors.  No IBS or Coeliac disease, something totally unexpected and not very nice at all.  The doctor said that the first two infections I had were misdiagnosed (luckily I went to see my doctor finally) by the other doctor.  I actually have SALMONELLA food poisoning and apparently I am very lucky that I didnt die from it since I had it so bad.  I must be a tough cookie after all.  It is a bit scary and frightening though when the doctor tells you that you could have nearly died (I did have a little cry in the car afterwards) so it makes me rethink things now.  He said I could have most likely caught it from take away food and since I do sometimes just pop into the shop and buy a little lunch time snack sometimes I know from now on no more take away at all.  I never want to experience that pain again.  Apart from the fatigue feeling and sometimes feeling faint, and the tummy spasms I should hopefully start to feel better in about 6 - 8 weeks.  After you have this it can take a long time to remove everything from your system.  I am just so thankful though that my kids didnt get it.  I just have to wait for the little fronds in my bowel to grow back (doctors description) as they have all been snapped off from all the sickness so apparently my food just goes straight through instead of being carefully delivered to my insides causing the tummy spasms.  Now after all the horribleness to tell you about it all I do have some wonderful news from last week.

My SIL is having twin BOYS and she actually sent us some pics of their 4D ultrasound.  I have already started them a little hoodie jacket and something else too which I hope to finish off tomorrow so I can show you all.  We are so super excited here about them arriving apart from Isabelle who thinks its unfair that there are going to be more boy cousins.  She and her cousin Laura are the only 2 girls and then there will be 6 boys too.  I did tell her that Laura and her would be special then because they are the only girls but she didnt seem to buy it.  Oh well more babies are always fantastic and great to spoil even if they will be living in another State.  I hope you all have a lovely healthy happy week!!!!

Oh no Sue, it sounds awful and terrifying. No wonder you were upset. We saw a movie called Food Inc a few weeks ago that talks about how disgusting takeaway/fastfoods really are and a mother talks in depth about losing her son after he ate a hamburger. It sounds like you are very lucky indeed.
That is very exciting news about your SIL. Happy knitting.

Oh gosh, how awful. I'm always dubious about takeaway food for that reason. Glad you are on the mend. Lovely news about the twins.

That sounds really frightening. I'm quite careful with takeaway options at the moment - a necessity when preggers! But I think some of the things I'm supposed to avoid quite disconcerting. Apparently rice that isn't freshly cooked is one of the worst offenders when it comes to food poisoning, and unless I actually SEE a chicken coming off the spit, BBQ chicken is also off the menu. It does make me wonder about the state of things I'm willing to eat under normal circumstances!

I'm really pleased to hear that you've finally got a proper explanation for what's been going on, and that there's an end in sight, even if it's weeks rather than days away.

And what exciting (if a little scary for her!) news for your sister in law!

Goodness Sue, no wonder you were frightened! Last September I ended up in hospital with suspected toxic shock syndrome, in the end I didn't have it but when I came back home, I suddenly fell to pieces too - just the thought I could have been very seriously ill and was lucky that I hadn't got ill... My dad came over for a few days to help out.
Lovely news about the twins, and my first thought was too that Isabella en Laura are now a bit special.
hope you start to feel better soon!

That's awful! How scary to hear that it was that serious. I hope you're feeling 100% again soon :)

Oh no! That's nasty. My mum had salmonella about 20 years ago and it nearly killed her too. The main problem was that they didn't diagnose it for ages, and by the time they worked it out she had jaundice and hep as well. Her doctor warned her to never eat raw oysters or salami or peperoni again. She got it from an oyster, but the other food has a high risk apparently.

Hope you're on the mend really soon!
