2011 - Item 1

Bloom
Happy New Year everyone!  I hope that you had a lovely start to the year.  We had a quiet one watching the fireworks from home as we had quite a few people who seemed to love the idea of letting off fireworks for the neighbourhood.  Poor Isabelle also had a vomiting bug which was rather quite nasty so she is taking it easy at home not venturing out much but lying on the couch watching her favourite tv shows!  Hopefully she will be well enough for us to go to Woodend tomorrow which should be lovely!  So onto the knitting ....

Pattern:  Bloom (by the wonderful Georgie Hallum)
Size:  Medium
Needles:  3.25 and 4.00mm
Yarn:  Dazzle (about 1.2 100gm balls) Color - Dark Pink
Started: 30th December and finished today

I really loved this pattern which I had printed off last year sometime.  I thought it might be perfect for a 2 year old who will be turning 3 on Valentine's Day.  Felicity is the sister of one of Lachlan's very good mates and she is very petite with very blonde hair and big blue eyes so this should be perfect for her.  The yarn seemed to go a long way and there was just enough pattern in the bottom of the skirt to keep me interested.  I think I am getting used to knitting from the top down now and knitting on circulars too.

I decided before Christmas to invest in some more circulars in sock needle sizes so I can finally start knitting socks that way instead of dpns.  We will see how I go with that as I dont mind knitting on dpns but am always worried that I will come back to them and the stitches will be off the needles.

I also started a scarf last night for my sister who turns 36 on Friday.  The pattern is from Anne Hanson of Knitspot who is a wonderful designer of gorgeous shawls, hats and I think socks too.  If you havent visited her before you really should.  She is knitspot on ravelry.  The scarf is looking lovely in the green that Isabelle chose.  I am using the Purla yarn which is so soft and hopefully warm enough for the upcoming winter.  I think that is about it for now so I will see you soon as I get back to enjoying my knitting and late nights too!

Such a pretty dress - she will love it!
BTW, once you start with a circular, you won't go back to DPNs.

Oh poor Isabelle. I hope she feels much better by now.
I love your Bloom so much and think it will perfect on that little girl. Have a wonderful day tomorrow.

It is indeed a gorgeous dress. It reminds me a bit of Alice in Wonderland though I don't know why. Hope Isabelle is feeling better now??

What an adorable dress!

I use long circulars for Magic Looping all my socks... I was always afraid of losing stitches with DPNs too! Plus, it's less places to worry about ladders!

The dress is gorgeous, absolutely love it. I have not as yet succeeded with circular needles, but I intend to try a few simple patterns this year - the plainer and simpler the better.
Not fun being sick on holidays, hope she feels better very quickly

That is a lovely Bloom- I really should knit one, add that to the queue!
I learnt how to knit socks on DPNs, and now I magic loop on an 80cm bamboo needle- I LOVE magic looping and wouldn't go back to DPNs for socks, but I'm still glad I've got that technique in my arsenal.

What a wonderful way to start off the new year. I like to do socks on dpns too, but I love the circs. I hope you will too!
