Broken Bones!

Poor Isabelle went for a trip to her friend's block yesterday.  They were riding bikes down a big hill and Isabelle fell off and landed on the bike breaking both bones in her wrist.  I took her to the hospital and we waited 2 hours to see someone which was just about 6:00 by then.  We had to wait for x-rays which were done by 7:30.  The doctor told us one bone was broken and she would have it plastered soon.  Five minutes later we had to be ushered to another part of the hospital which went into lockdown because a psychiatric patient had come in with a machette and they had to make sure he couldnt get into our part of the hospital, which was downright scary.  About an hour later we were let back out and had to wait for the plaster to be done.  Our doctor had forgotten about us.  Another doctor came and apologised and said he would do it as soon as there was an available room.  Midnight came and Isabelle went into shock and I had had enough of seeing her in so much pain. I went to the doctor's station and complained and didnt leave until they got us a room to do her arm.  1:00 this morning I was able to go home with her.  I have to say that was one of the most draining nights of my life, and Paul had stayed home because we thought it wouldnt take that long!  I think today I will be calling the place to make a complaint as so many nurses and doctors said she shouldnt have been left there for so long and gave us a complaints form.  I really do hope my little girl never has to go through things like that again.  She has plaster up to her armpit and is having lots of medicine today.  Okay, I feel a bit better now getting that off my chest!

Oh, that's awful! Poor little Isabelle. I hope she won't be in much pain and will heal quickly. You're the second bike-broken bone incident I've heard this week -- and old quilt friend of mine posted that her hubby fell off of his bike and broke his back. ;-(

Poor Isabelle, I hope she is feeling a little better this morning. That sounds like a horror evening at the A&E. I think a complaint is definitely in order.

Poor darling, what an ordeal (for both if you)! Hopefully it heals up nicely and at least she'll have a good story to tell in years to come. ;)

Poor Isabelle! They really did make you wait a long time...I would complain and loudly!
I hope she isn't in too much pain and gets a little bit of pampering while she recovers!

Oh that's terrible that she had to wait so long and be in so much pain. I hope she starts feeling better soon, poor gal.

Oh Sue, what a terrible story! It must have been a nightmare waiting in the hospital. I hope you are all recovering today, I'm sending you lots of love and good wishes. You should definitely write a letter of complaint as no one should have to wait that long. Thinking of you both, take care beautiful xo

Sue, I am so sorry to hear what your daughter went through. You are right in saying that it is definitely not good enough & you should get writing that complaint.
Poor girl, bet she wont forget that in a hurry.

That's awful! Casts take some getting used to, too! At least there'll be lots of knitting needles around to be used as scratching implements when the need (frequently) arises!

Get well soon, Isabelle!

Poor Isabelle and poor you trying to be there for her and being treated like that. I hope it heals really well for her.

I had a similar experience with my third son, about the same age who borrowed a pair of roller skates, never been on them before and stood up on a sloping path. Down he went. The hospital we went to in rural Sydney has since been rebuilt but I could recognise your experience. They strapped it up and we had to go back the next day because x-ray department was closed. We went back to city and they gave him a general anaesthetic to set it.

Plaster made him a bigshot with his friends at school but bathing was awkward even with plastic bags. As has been remarked, at least you'll have needles to scratch with. Best wishes to you both.

That is dreadful...How is she today?
Yes, follow through with that complaint. What are you going to do to recover? Something very nice is in order i think!

Oh, poor little girl! I'm glad it all ended well, but I would definitely complain - you'd think they'd be a bit more on top of things when dealing with a child.

good for you to get it off your chest! Poor Isabelle though! Been there with my elder girls twice, but it all went smoothly!
I do hope Isabelle will never go through the same again!

oh sue what a nightmare and for everyone involved. Poor isabelle and poor mum.

hope she's on the mend and has a speedy recovery.

I must admit we've had good experiences at our local hospital because they have a special paed emergency ward and we've been there 3 times in a year with Finn so are becoming frequent flyers. But a positive experience is much easier than a bad one! I would definitely complain

I hope Isabelle is feeling better now and the cast isn't too much of a hassle. I can't believe how horrible it must have been to go through all that at the hospital. I hope there is some resolution.

That's really terrible, and definitely worthy of making an official complaint.

I hope Isabelle is feeling better and is recovering well.

Oh, yikes. That is a doozy of a scenario. When my smallest attempted a finger amputation of the extreme kind the same sort of thing happened to us. Thirty hours she waited for surgery. AAARGH.

Hope it's tea and sympathy and generally feeling better all round today.

That sounds like a terrible experience in the hospital. Hope Isabelle is feeling better now.

We are lucky to live in a country with a good health system - but sometimes that systems can let us down. what a terrible adventure you two had - i bet you were both very glad to be home again - safe and sound and away from the machette weilding madman!
